Ben Nielsen's Alexandria Auto Care

The service technicians were great -- helpful and speedy in handling the repair needed (battery replacement). I was especially impressed that despite my dropping in unexpectedly they were very attentive and helpful. The price for the repair was considerably higher than I expected, but I appreciate the good service I received.

I am so sad to write this new review (the previous review was 5 stars), because I have depended on Ben Nielsen for autocare for over a decade, first at Skyline and then at Alexandria Auto Care. My most recent experience was truly awful--a complete rejection of what I thought the company's core values were. First, they need to get the manager Ryan a proper office, or they need to schedule "calls with corporate" for times when customers are not in the shop. I listened to Ryan talk about HR matters (literally discussing a mechanic's job performance) and sales for about 10 minutes while I waited. Ryan was pledging to meet a sales target of $40,000, maybe a day?? And promising to encourage his guys to load customers up with photos to push for extra work. That is completely contrary to what I thought the values of the company were: to NOT manipulate people into getting work they don't need done. It was gross. But I don't fault Ryan--I fault whoever was on the other end of that call, who seems to not understand why people use your business (integrity). At the very least, those kinds of calls should not happen in front of customers. But because of the shop's small size, Ryan had literall

This morning I was greeted by a completely flat tire that wouldn’t hold added air for any period of time. Not knowing how far it would last, I called Ben Nielsen’s and they took me right away. I had never used Ben Nielsen’s so I didn’t know what to expect. When we arrived, the lot was full of cars and most of the work bays also full…..so I was prepared to wait a while. Thankfully, not the case! They were able to check it out right away and fix the issue! The team at Ben Nielsen’s was professional, responsive, thorough and best of all communicated with me at every step. I am extremely grateful for the outcome and the attention we received. Ben Nielsen’s Alexandria Auto Care has definitely added a new customer to their list!

They do fine work, but you will get nickled and dimed. We had brakes replaced, AC flushed, and a handful of other things. Just under $4K all said. They still charged us nearly $100 for labor on just dropping a battery in after nearly $300 in diagnostic charges. Autozone will drop a battery in for free, for reference. Further, their initial quote didn't include their promo discount, I had to mention it. Then, the final cost, while it included the discount, rose to nearly the exact difference the discount made in the first place.

Had an emergency flat tire and the team here had me in and out within 15 minutes. Ensured that my new plug was durable for the life of the tire and were complete gentleman. Cannot recommend them enough; very trustworthy and Old Town North is lucky to have them!
